Black History - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He spent a lot of time in his father's church listening to his him preach. Martin Luther King, Jr. went to college and became a minister like his farther. In 1955 people who lived in the south were made to sit in the back of buses because it was a law. Dr. King wanted his people to win equal rights in a peaceful way. One of Dr. Kings biggest marches was held on August 28, 1963. It was called the March on Washington. Thousands of people marched peacefully to the Lincoln Memorial. Dr. King gave his famous "I have a dream..." speech. His dream was that all people would one day be treated equally. He was the second black American to be awarded the Nobel Peace prize. Dr. King continued working for the civil rights until he was shot and killed in 1968 at age thirty-nine.:(
