A letter from Chancellor

Image
Hello Readers, City University School has shared their pictures with me as they watch the Inauguration of President Barack Obama! This is the letter from the Chancellor from the school: I hope this communication has found you well and filled with the hope for change that President Obama has committed to this country. I want to take this opportunity to share with you a few pictures from the Inaugural Watch Party and Forum held at City University School of Liberal Arts, on Tuesday, January 20, 2009. With so many different events going on during this day filled with celebration, I wanted to provide you with just a few scenes as to how City University's scholars, parents and staff marked this day in history. Including watching and being actively involved in the pomp and circumstances of the Inauguration, the scholars also participated in a public forum where they shared with their peers and parents what this day meant to them. This wonderfully exciting teachable moment has provided the

My Book Reports

Hello Readers, This week I have to work on two big book reports due in February so I might not be posting things as much as I do. One book report is going to be on Charles R. Drew (portrait at left) and the other is going to be about my great grand-mother. This is my 3-D project of Charles Drew. I made an A+ on my project.

Back to School

Hello Readers, I had to go back to school today. I was happy to see all my friends and teachers again. My mom helped me study my spelling words on the plane and in the airport because she knew I would have a spelling test today. I told my class about my trip and the inauguration, and they asked me some questions about my trip.

We're going home!

Hello Readers, We have to go home today. We had to get up early so we could catch the train. I saw a lot of people catching the train to go to work. I counted 13 stops before we had to get off the train and catch the bus. When we got on the bus it was a big bus that had TV's on it, but the TV's did not work. The bus took us to the airport. When we arrived at the airport we saw Barack Obama. He was made of cardboard and we took pictures in front of it. We had to wait for my dad to pick us up. My mom put our luggage on a rolling cart, that I pushed around the airport. I was getting hungry so my mom brought me a roast beef sandwich. Then we waited for my dad to pick us up. I showed my dad everything I had brought back home, even my light up button that said First Family.

Inaguration Day has arrived

Image
Hello Readers, The inauguration was today and I am very happy that we have a black president. We had to stand in a long line at the train station. There were lots and lots and lots of people standing in line to ride the train. All of us were trying to get to Washington for the Presidential Inauguration. We went to the NEWSEUM to see the Inauguration and we saw a video about not using up the world's energy. Most of all it was a good tape and we slept on the first bench before we back to the train station.

The Best Obama Book and Book Signing

Image
Hello Readers, Today we went to a book signing and I was very happy! There was a lot of people, there was a girl tugging at my leg. Nikki Grimes said that she wanted us to dream on. I had a book about BARACK OBAMA signed by Nikki Grimes and illustrator Bryan Collier. I asked, what made you want to write a book about Barack Obama? She paused for a few seconds and said, " Yes I love to write, it would be lots of publicity, and it would bring attention to my other books and writings. Once the research began, she began to like him, she began to understand his message, leaning more led to greater appreciation. Following his campaign ups and downs made my heart jump." The book was a "crash book." In December of 2007, the publisher contacted her and requested 3 weeks for research and writing, as opposed to the usual 3 to 4 months for book research alone. Do you see the cross in the book cover?

Image
Hello Readers, I received another special book for Christmas from 2 people who are very special to me!! The name of the book is "Barack Obama Son of Promise, Son of Hope" by Nikki Grimes. This book has a beautiful and colorful cover on it. When I look at the cover of the book, Barack Obama is bending down in front of a sand castle. You will have to have the book to do this so you can see what I see. If you look real close at the front cover you will see a cross and there are spotlights coming out from the cross. Try this so you can see the cross: 1. Put your right hand behind Barack Obama's body (your hand will be slanted) 2. Then put your left hand in front of his body (your left hand should cover his knee and half of his thigh). You will see a slanted vertical line 3. Put your right hand under the sand castle 4. Put your left hand on top of the sand castle (this hand will be right about the top of the sand castle) you will see a horizontal line 5. Now draw the invisible

I'm still counting!

My Share Day at School

Hello Readers, I found out that my share day is Monday, January 12, 2009. When I think about bringing something to share I say "MAN!, I don't have anything to share at home. Then I start to think of something to share and my first thing I said I wanted to share was a seashell, then I just remembered that my mom threw the seashell in the trash because it began to smell bad. Then my second suggestion was my piano pencil, but I knew nobody would want to hear somebody talk about a pencil during morning meeting. Then my third suggestion was my Barack Obama book that I got for Christmas. The name of it is "The American Journey of Barack Obama from Boyhood to the White House published by Life Books. This book teaches me a lot about Barack Obama and I like it because I want to learn a lot more about Barack Obama. In this book it tells you about him and it shows pictures of when he was a little baby, in elementary school, college, grown up, and how he got to the White House. If yo

A Very Happy Day

Hello Readers, November 5, 2008, this was a very happy day for me because Barack Obama won the election. I felt very happy when I went to school on that day and I told everyone that I heard on the news that Barack Obama won! Because I was so happy, I did the Cha-Cha Slide before I left for school. The Cha-Cha Slide is a dance that the gym teacher taught us at school.

Election Day at my school

Image
Hello Readers, I thought it was going to be a regular day at school. The principal said we were going to have a mock election. The computers were in the rotunda, one of them was beside the office and the other one was beside the guidance office. All the students in school had to vote for Barack Obama or John McCain. After everybody voted, the principal announced on the intercom that Barack Obama had won because he had the most votes from the students at school. I can not remember the number of votes that Barack Obama had or the number of votes for John McCain. I remember that everybody in my class screamed to the top of our lungs and some of us said yes!
