When dogs kick after going to the bathroom, they are using the scent glands on their paws to further mark their territory.

  1. I did not know that! How fascinating! This factoid presents a puzzle, however, when it comes to cats. Cats use their paws to dig up dirt or sand to cover up their excrement. If their scent glands leave behind a smell, however, then they cannot fool their potential prey into thinking that 'there is no cat around'. Or, do dogs and cats have scent glands in different places on their bodies???
